What information should I bring for my appointment?
Please bring your insurance cards and all current medication bottles (or a complete list including doses) and note any refills that may be needed at each office visit.

Why have I received a statement from Selma Medical?
If you are unsure about a bill you have received, please feel free to call our billing department at 540-678-2837 and one of our representatives can explain the charges to you.

One common example of confusion is when a study is referred to one of our doctors for reading. We bill the patient for this service.
Why were my charges not covered by Medicare?
Vaccinations other than flu, pneumonia, and hepatitis B are typically not covered by Medicare. Preventive exams other than your "Welcome to Medicare" Exam and annual wellness visits are also not covered by Medicare.

Your "Welcome to Medicare" Exam is a preventive visit within the first 12 months of Part B coverage. This visit is covered by Medicare.

What if I cannot afford to pay my medical bill?
If you are having trouble paying your medical bill, we do offer payment plans and other assistance depending on your situation.

How can friends or family access my health information?
To allow anyone other than yourself access to your records or make requests, you must fill out an Authorization for Disclosure of Health Information form, listing anyone you wish to have access to your account, and bring the form to Selma Medical or fax it to our Medical Records department at 540-678-2859.
How can I have my records sent to someone?
To have your records sent out, you must fill out an Authorization for Disclosure of Health Information form and bring the form to Selma Medical or fax it to our Medical Records department at 540-678-2859.
How can I get my medication refilled?
If you have an appointment before you run out of medication, you may ask your doctor for a refill. Otherwise you should contact your pharmacy who will work with us to get your medication refilled. Please allow at least 72 hours, or up to 1 week for written prescriptions, to process your refill request.

What do I need to do to prepare for a fasting lab?
Eight (8) hours prior to your fasting lab, you cannot eat or drink anything except for water, black tea, or black coffee. Please do not allow yourself to become dehydrated.
What should I do if there is inclement weather?
You should call our main line at 540-678-2800, and if there is a delay or closing, there will be a message explaining the situation. Also, any appointments that are scheduled during that time must be rescheduled.

FINANCIAL & INSURANCE INFORMATION
Financial concerns are understandable when seeking medical care but should not become a barrier to receiving services. Often, medical insurance will cover some, but not all, medical costs. Co-payments, deductibles and other non-covered expenses are the responsibility of the patient at the time of service. Your personal check, Visa, Discover, or MasterCard are gladly accepted as forms of payment. Our Billing Department is open Monday through Friday from 8:30am until 4:30pm to help you with insurance and financial issues. If your insurer requires pre-certification for hospital procedures or diagnostic tests, please notify our Billing Department prior to the procedure. Please bring all insurance cards and any claim forms your employer may require. Should your insurance carrier withhold payment or partial payment of your claim for any reason, our Billing Department will assist you in obtaining an explanation from them.
