Dr. Robert Townsend Cole, MD, FHFSA

Doctor Cole's Portrait
Dr. Cole provides specialized care for patients with congestive heart failure and advanced cardiovascular conditions at the Selma Heart Center. His clinical focus includes cardiology, advanced heart failure, and transplantation, with a commitment to helping patients improve both their heart health and overall quality of life through compassionate, collaborative care.
Dr. Cole completed medical school, internal medicine residency, cardiology fellowship, and advanced heart failure fellowship training at Emory University in Atlanta. He cares for patients with complex cardiac conditions using advanced therapies and evidence-based treatment approaches.
Inspired by the opportunity to combine critical thinking with hands-on patient care, Dr. Cole values building strong partnerships with his patients. He believes the best outcomes come when patients and providers work together as a team to achieve meaningful health goals and improve long-term wellness.
Through his work at Selma Heart Center and while also maintaining his active staff privileges at Inova, Dr. Cole is helping expand access to advanced cardiovascular expertise while preserving the personalized, relationship-based care Selma patients have trusted for decades.
This collaboration allows patients in Winchester and the surrounding region to receive high-quality specialty care close to home, with improved coordination and access to advanced services when needed.
Outside of work, Dr. Cole enjoys traveling, spending time with his daughters, and cheering for mediocre sports teams. Originally from a small town in the swamps of south Louisiana, he jokes that despite his roots, he doesn’t have a Cajun accent.
